I can't find it in Tokyo, but I love humus. For humus what is a good substitute for tahini? Is it sesame oil?
I make an awesome hummus and I don't put in any tahini.
Here is my recipe:
1 head garlic-roasted
1 can garbanzo beans
1 fresh lemon
1/2 cup good olive oil
salt and pepper to taste.
Blend all ingredients in a food processor. Drizzle in 3 tablespoons hot water while processing. Serve the next day.For humus what is a good substitute for tahini? Is it sesame oil?
Since tahini is the same as sesame paste, you can make your own in a blender by mixing white sesame seeds with a small amount of peanut oil (or other oil) until creamy.
Apart from making your own, you can substitute tahini with the following: sesame butter (thicker) OR 3 parts creamy peanut butter + 1 part sesame oil OR toasted sesame seeds (for hummus) OR toasted sesame oil (for hummus) OR peanut butter (for sauces).
No, it's a paste made from sesame, not an oil. DOn't know about a substitute.
It is not sesame oil, it is a sesame paste. I think you could substitute sesame oil for it. You can also leave it out altogether. It won't be quite the same but it is till yummy without either.
!Yes! It is Sesame Oil
