How can i get an oil drain plug off that has been rounded/stripped?

Its rounded on the head of the bolt. I've tried Gator Grip, Vice Grips with no luck. Its on there VERY tight. How can i get an oil drain plug off that has been rounded/stripped?
Use a ';easy out'; . You first drill a small hole in the bolt.(you may want to use a dremel to grind a spot in the exact middle so you dont get it off center)then you drill a larger hole with the size needed for the easy out.(it should have the bolt size/drill size requirements on the package) then after the drilling you screw the easy out into the bolt and when you remove it ,it locks the bolt and takes it out with it.Be careful not to drill all the way through. It would get real messy)How can i get an oil drain plug off that has been rounded/stripped?
using a hacksaw blade cut a straight line across the head of the bolt for a large flat tip screw driver, the use a manual impact driver to loosen the bolt
i have in the past, use a small chisel and on the edge of the plug to remove these, just tap lightly in the counter clockwise direction
If its a metal plug and metal pan, away from plastics, hoses, wires, etc... use a propane torch or a heat air gun to heat the plug area. Then spray it with penetrant oil (WD40) and then crack it out with vice grips.
pipe wrench or beat a smaller socken on it with a hammer
A pipe wrench will turn any bolt.
whatever means you use, dont try to use tourque to turn it, instead use a hammer to tap it loose. next time, do not overtighten it, or kick the persons *** who put a stripped plug back in.
They have special sockets available at most auto parts store that remove rounded bolts. Just ask they'll know what to give you.
vice grips would work it you put a longer handle on for more leverage, or anything with a long handle...i recomend a pipe wrench....and you can extend that handle by slipping a piece of pipe over the end of that handle!
Buy a new plug and take car somewhere to have oil changed. I am sure they will be able to remove plug and put new one in. Should not cost anything extra. Then you can change it yourself next time.
two ways first you can drill it tap it insert a left hand thread and it should screw out

second .quicker and less bother .. cut the top off a bolt and weld the top of it to the stump of the old plug then it will unscrew

How do i change the oil on a ford ranger 1999?

I have never done any car work, but I hear this is relatively easy. I would like to do this and avoid taking it into a shop... On average how much will i save by doing this myself? How do i change the oil on a ford ranger 1999?

Drive to parts store.

By oil, filter, and drain pan, oil filter wrench, drain plug wrench.

Drive back home.

Drain oil, remove oil filter making sure the rubber gasket is not stuck to the oil filter adapter.

Put oil pan plug back in.

Install new filter after putting a light coating of oil on the oil filter O ring.

You may want to pre fill the oil filter to make it easier on your engine when you first start it.

Add 4 quarts of oil.

Start engine, check for leaks.

Dispose of used oil properly.
Get under your truck and find the oil pan and oil filter. Take the screw out of the oil pan and let it drain. Make sure you have something to let it drain into. Then remove the oil filter. Replace the filter with a new one. Put the plug back in the oil pan, and put oil back in from the top. There should be a little Oil can icon on the cap. I dont know haow many quarts you Ranger takes maybe 5 or 6. I usually save about 15 dollars everytime I change my own.

the first answer is correct. you do realize tho that the b.t.u are as follows- fuel oil burns at 141,00 b.t.u where propane is at 91,500 b.t.u and natural gas 90,000. all this means that when your looking at prices you have to take account of how it is burning also. may a new furnace/boiler or even just a good tune-up may help you out. you can try contacting your supplier and looking over some other alternativesHow much to convert from oil to electric ?

How can i remove cooking oil from clothing?

I accidently got cooking oil on my clothes, i put them in the washer but the oil has stained and won't come out, is there anything i can use to remove the grease? How can i remove cooking oil from clothing?
LESTOIL! It is the single greatest laundry room miracle I can think of. It will remove grease, tar, marker etc.. My Mom always used to use it for any sort of oil/grease and it works wonders. I think it's a little harder to find in grocery stores and such now, call an ace hardware or something. It's petroleum based, won't ruin your clothes, gets out just about any stain (some times it takes 2 cycles, you just keep working it in) How can i remove cooking oil from clothing?
Usually a grease stain is treated immediately, try dusting the grease stain with Baby Powder waiting a few hours then dusting off, pour on some White Vinegar then leave for about five to six hours put in the washer set washer on hottest water that garment can handle full cycle and add one cup of White Vinegar do not add any detergent or fabric softener as this will hinder the vinegar from removing stains and vinegar also softens clothes like a fabric softener does but less expensive, when drying this garment do not add any dryer sheets Good Luck !
I like waterless hand cleaner for grease stains.

You can buy it in the dollar store or the automotive section of stores like WalMart. Mechanics use it to get grease off their hands but it is safe on clothes, too. M30 and Goop are the names to look for.

Rub in a dab. Wait 20 mins and launder as usual.

Dawn dishwashing liquid is good, too. Or plain shampoo ( no conditioners, etc )
Make a paste of a liquid dish soap (Dawn) and baking soda. Apply it to the stain and let it sit for 30 minutes. Launder as usual in the hottest water safe for the particular article of clothes.
I had the same problem with olive oil in a navy tshirt, after washing it and it didn't come out I rubbed in normal fairy liquid and tried again on a 40 degree wash and it came straight out.
Try cornmeal. Rub some on there, dump it off, rib some on there, dump it off.... it is good at absorbing stuff like that. It works for grease spots on a wall, also.
My wife uses a product called Pink Soap found in the Michaels arts and craft store in the paint aisle.. gets lots of stuff out.
I agree with Agent Mime2, Cornflour is good.

Otherwise, I had this problem and the stains did go after several washes.
put Dawn dish detergent on the stain and wash in warm water and it will come out.
I am almost sure that lemon juice is supposed to remove oil and grease stains but I'm not sure. Check it out :D
put it in the washing machine

How to get rid of oil stains in driveway?

I have a rental property and the driveway looked nice, but last time I was there I noticed a big puddle of fresh oil in the driveway.

What is the best way to remove the oil and restore the clean look to the driveway? ( I just hate the look of those big, black oil stains in driveways!)How to get rid of oil stains in driveway?
when I worked in the garage...we would put some cleaning solvent on the stain and then use floor dry (kitty litter is the same thing) and scrub it with a broom...on concrete this works well and is inexpensive as well. Cleaning solvent first then the floor dry to pick up the solvent and oil. You can get a small can of cleaning solvent at your auto parts store.

Hope this works for you.How to get rid of oil stains in driveway?

Simple Green- it make take a few rinsings but it's alot safer then bleach

How to paint on dried oil layer?

I want to paint over a dried oil painting which I have not finished. Do I need to apply some linseed oil or something like that before I paint new layer oil on it? and why? Thanks! How to paint on dried oil layer?
You can paint right over it, but your new layer needs to have more oil in it that the previous one did, in order to bind to it properly.

There is also something called ';retouch varnish'; which is applied all over a dried layer, to provide a uniform surface and finish for adding new details to a dried painting. How to paint on dried oil layer?
Well I've had to do this on several occasions and what I did was to figure out a very opaque color of paint, in my case it was ';unbleached titanium white. I had to very lightly sand the areas of the old painting to make sure it didnt show through the new painting. The titanium white works wonderfully as a basecoat and I will give you my little formula for making sure the paint dries fast enough for me to use the canvas asap,.....mix one bottle of cobalt drier with one bottle of the same size of varnish, then take one of those empty bottle and fill it three times and mix it with the drier %26amp; the varnish into a bottle or jar,.......next, take one tablespoon of ';laquer thinner'; and add it to the mixture. The laquer thinner acts as a catalyst when you dip your brush in the mixture and then pull it out, the air hits the paint and the catalyst (laquer thinner) acts to activate the mixture you just made, your oils should dry and about 20 to 30 minutes...there will be no cracking and the paint will adhere better to the canvas......................good luck to you and happy painting.

Why did they put 5w30 oil in my car when I live in Florida?

I just noticed after I arrived home from the service garage that they had put 5w30 oil in my engine when I had my oil and filter changed yesterday. Shouldn't they at least ask the customer if they prefer 10w30 or 5w30, especially if you live in a warmer climate? I never drive my own car outside of Florida. Why did they put 5w30 oil in my car when I live in Florida?
They use the oil recommended by car makers, if it says 5w30 on your oil cap that's what they use. Don' t worry, u won't have any problems. Car makers now recommend 5w20 all year round in all climates. The difference between 5w30 - 10w30 is minimalWhy did they put 5w30 oil in my car when I live in Florida?
If that is what your car recommends I would go with that. I know someone that put a heavier weight oil in his newer car because he had done it with his older ones, it wasn't thin enough to get into new tighter bearings and he ruined his engine. He took out the 10w30 and put 5w30 back in before he took it to the dealership for the warranty, they threatened not to cover it. They said that only happens when someone puts heavier weight oil. He lied and got it covered, but they knew what he was up to. I would play it say and use whatever the engine says to.
The vast majority of vehicles built in the last 20 years and sold in the United States recommend 5W30 (or lighter) all-year round no matter what the climate. Since you do not state what type of vehicle you have I can only speculate that the shop was doing what the folks who designed and built your vehicle say is best for it.
That's what I use in my car too! And the reason is that General Motors recommends 5XW30 for my car! I also live in a warm climate (we only have about 2 months of really cold weather), so my thinking is, if it is OK with G.M. - it's OK with me!
some newer cars even use 0 w 30 so dont worry
Both behave as 30 weight oil when hot, the 5W-30 flows easier after a start up, its the correct oil to use even in Florida.

How do you clean/remove oil from electric stove burners?

Previous oil splatters produce smoke while cooking. What works well? Thanks in advance? How do you clean/remove oil from electric stove burners?
I just spray degreaser on a paper towel and wipe, and then dry with another paper towel. I have not had a problem. How do you clean/remove oil from electric stove burners?
I'm not sure if this is proper but here's what I do. I unplug the burner, get a wash cloth wet and soapy and wash it, avoiding the part that plugs in. I rinse it (again, avoiding the plug in part) in hot water. Let air dry overnight. Plug back in in the morning.
    Stove Burner Cleaning

The best way to clean stove burners is to gently pull them out of the stove top, and wash with warm, soapy water. Use a gentle detergent such as that used to wash dishes. Do not submerse them or allow the electrical connection to get wet. If there is food or burnt particles stuck to them, use baking soda as a cleanser. Use it as you would a cleansing scrub, or if you have stubborn stains you can make a paste with baking soda and water and let it sit for 30 minutes, then scrub. Be sure to rinse them thoroughly with clear water. Depending on the condition of the burners you may not get them just like new (if they are scratched, worn, etc.), but you should be able to get them thoroughly clean. To prevent buildup and burned on food, wipe burners thoroughly during your regular kitchen cleaning ritual :)
After the burner has cooled I wipe down with a damp cloth with very little dawn dish detergent.
AFter i cook let, i it cool for awhile, then start to scrub ( foam to avoid scratches ) it with dishwashing liquid, finish it with dump cloth.

How do I check the oil level in my transaxle case -- chevy express van?

I have a 97 chevy can and I sometimes feel a rough engagement in the rear. I see two large square looking plugs, do I unscrew these or do I pry off the round seals on the other end of the case?

Please don't tackle the job yourself! Go to a trusted repair garage and pay them to do it for you.How do I check the oil level in my transaxle case -- chevy express van?
You do not have a transaxle.
You have a rear differential, not a transaxle. You need to

remove the top plug, reach a finger inside the hole, the oil

should be just below the opening. If you cannot feel the oil,

you need to put some in. Check your owner's manual to

find out the correct type of differential oil.

Is there a recipe for chocolate crinkle cookies with shortening instead of OIL?

I can't find one. I assume you need oil for the chewiness of the cookie. I just can't get to the store to buy oil, and I'm out.

You know the cookie...rolled in powdered sugar, with a crackled appearance on top, but soft inside? Is there a recipe for chocolate crinkle cookies with shortening instead of OIL?
here is one that I found that calls for butter and not oil

    1/2 cup butter

    1 1/4 cups granulated sugar

    2 teaspoons vanilla

    2 eggs

2 ounces unsweetened chocolate, melted and cooled

    2 cups all-purpose flour

    2 teaspoons baking powder

    1/2 teaspoon salt

    2 tablespoons milk

1/2 cup chopped pecans or other nuts, optional

    confectioners' sugar

In a large mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar until light; add vanilla then beat in eggs and melted chocolate.

Stir in dry ingredients alternately with milk. Stir in chopped pecans. Shape dough into 1-inch balls (stir if necessary to make the dough firmer). Roll balls in confectioners' sugar and place on lightly greased baking sheets about 2 inches apart. Bake at 350掳 for 14 to 16 minutes, or until cookies are firm in the center. Remove from baking sheets and cool on racks. Sprinkle warm with additional powdered sugar from shaker or sifter, if desired.

Makes about 4 dozen chocolate crinkle cookies. ever

every other recipe I found called for oil alsoIs there a recipe for chocolate crinkle cookies with shortening instead of OIL?
Just use shortening instead of oil or butter/margarine. I use shortening in all of my cookie recipes regardless of what oily ingredient it lists. The shortening makes it a chewier cookie. Yum! I love Chocolate Crinkle Cookies!! :)
Just melt your shortening, it will do the same job.

How many quarts of Motor oil do i need?

I own a 1991 Ford Explorer, V6, 4 liter, automatic, 2wheel drive. I need help, i need to do a complete motor oil change but i don't know how many quarts of motor oil i need to put in my car.How many quarts of Motor oil do i need?
Buy 6, u need to fill your filter at least half way with oil before replacing it, and you need at least 5 QT. to bring it to full. Not to pricey. Nice year for rangers as well. Also, if you use a synthetic blended motor oil, such as Mobil 1, you will get better protection, and longer time between changes. Regular oil needs to be changed every 3,000 miles, whereas Synthetic changes are not required until after 7,000 miles. You get added protection as well. Good Luck. How many quarts of Motor oil do i need?

  • How do you restart a oil furnace?

Fiance bled line already and pushed restart button. Still nothing. How do you restart a oil furnace?
Sometimes it takes more than 1 reset cycle to bleed the line. keep bleeding it until the oil comes out the bleeder in a solid (not foamy ) stream. The reply about the oil filter is accurate . The one about the pilot light is not ,oil furnaces do not have pilot lights.Newer control boxes with the reset button have a safety built in that if you hit the reset button 3 times , the control goes into ';latch up'; mode and you will not be able to reset it without following directions in the manual. If you have this type it will have a flashing light to let you know the status.Other causes could be a blocked nozzle or fuel pump strainer. How do you restart a oil furnace?
Hi...........On the front of your furnace there should be a access door, slide it open and see if the pilot is on.. A small flame.

If not you need to light it or get it lit.. Make sure your main switch is off before you do this!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's a red faced light switch that says ';oil burner';.. You also may need to prime the system, not knowing your system I cannot tell you how to do that. Mine is simple the primer in on the pump going into the furnace..

Make sure the fuel switch is turned-on.. Mines the slide lever gated switch right over the furnace.. If you have a small cup, glass is good as this is a petrolium product and will melt most other containers.. I have a spiggot right out-side the door of the furnace for this purpose... Make sure the electrical switch is off as well before doing this if you have anything electrical that could get splashed by oil accidentally during this process.. Also make sure the area is clean before starting the system, ok?? We don't want any fires!!!

Hope this helps, I've had to do this to mine more often with the older system i had that came with the house when i baught it 13-years ago.... The new furnace I have now is virtually maintenance free..;-))))))) Good Luck with yours!!!
check the oil line filter, very good chance it could be clogged.if you just had a oil delivery sometimes sludge could be drawn and clog the filter.it a messy job /make sure you put a metal container under filter holder to cat ch fuel that leaks out loosen the bolt on top of filter do not remove it,see if you get a good flow if you do retighten the bolt hit the reset on the control panel in front or on the side.give it a shot

Pressure relief valve still leaks after it was replaced on a Burnham oil heater, why?

If it is just dripping a little, this is common until it seats itself. Sometimes this will take a few days. If it continues, you have a bad valve and will need to replace it.Pressure relief valve still leaks after it was replaced on a Burnham oil heater, why?
HMM. Maybe you got a bad relief valve, maybe the system is producing too much pressure for some reason.Pressure relief valve still leaks after it was replaced on a Burnham oil heater, why?
It is entirely possible for a pressure relief valve to be ';bad out of the box'; but I would first suspect the expansion tank. If it is a bladder type, the bladder could be broken; if not, it may just be waterlogged. Tap on it with a spoon near the top and you should be able to tell if its full of water.

If its bad, replacement is easy.

Shut off the water and the burner

Release pressure from the system thru a hot water faucet

Drain a gallon or two of water from the tank

Spin off the old expansion tank and spin on the new pre-charged one using teflon tape on the threads.

    Turn the water back on.

    Relight the burner
It might be that you have too much water pressure in your system. Most of the time a T%26amp;P valve on a heating system is only for 30 psi. See if you can find a pressure gauge anywhere. If need be relieve some of the pressure.
checked the atuo fill control valve it mite be set to hight most boiler operate at a lower pressure coming in to the house
Your pressure tank is water logged, or your reducing valve is bad.

These are not TP valves, only 30 PSI pressure valves.

It sounds like it's time to get the system checked by a pro.

How to get a grease/oil stain out of my luggage.?

I have some red luggage that just got stained from the coveyer belt. Its red canvas any ideas how to get it out. Im going to Florida so i just want to get the stain out. Quick. How to get a grease/oil stain out of my luggage.?
Try using WD-40 and then follow up with your regular spot remover, then wash as usual. How to get a grease/oil stain out of my luggage.?
    dawn dish soap
Try putting some Dawn dish soap on a clean cloth %26amp; rub on the grease spots by using small circular motions. Then once the stain is out, wipe clean with a damp cloth %26amp; either dry the area with a blow dryer or let it air dry. Good luck!!!!
    Non-chlorinated brake cleaner.

Get it at an auto parts store.
Mix borax and hot water to make a dry paste. Rub into stain and let dry. Vacuum out. Repeat if stain is still there.. You might test on hidden area to make sure the red doesn't lose its color.
that is very easy just scrub it out with seamen
Grease removes grease, believe it or not. You can use WD40 spray on it and it should make it disappear.
The best thing to use for grease or oil is Lestoil and a toothbrush. Scrub and leave sitting on the stain for an hour or so then to remove scrub with soap and water, pat dry with clean white cloth or towel. Works well on chapstick stains too!
try using some of your own shampoo , this might get it out
Try mechanic hand cleaner soap.Dawn dish detergent, Alcohol (1part alcohol to 2 parts water).

Any of these will help Blot with paper towel.

How do you change an Oil Sensor in a 2004 Audi S4?

The light keeps coming on in the dash and I need to get it fixed, obviously. The only problem is that I've never done it before, I've only seen it being done once to my old car. The car is my boyfriends and I wanted to surprise him by getting some things fixed on the car for letting me drive it for the past 6 months.

Thank You for all of your answers :) wish me luck! How do you change an Oil Sensor in a 2004 Audi S4?
Is this the oil pressure switch, or the oil LEVEL switch??? Remember that the Audi MUST have oil that meets specification 502/505, or things start to go wrong with the car. There are only a few oils on the market that meet these spec's. READ the manual. Perhaps you should use Seafoam to clean out the system, and get a proper oil change using Mobil One, ELF, Amsoil, or Pennzoil Platinum. But use ONLY oils that state on the lable, ';meets VW/Audi specification 502/505.'; If the problem is the oil LEVEL sensor, a good garage can hoist the car, and remove and clean the sensor for about $20-30. The engine is this car is nothing short of MIRACULOUS. It has piston squirters inside that spray the wrist pins on the pistons EVERY time the piston hits mid-bottom. Poor oil that makes sludge will clog these things up, and create oil pressure issues. Lubro-Moly and Amsoil also make excellent oil sludge removers. These will revitalize the whole engine inside. Also, make sure you use ONLY genuine VW/Audi coolant. You can ask at the Audi dealer for a new pressure switch, and they will show you on their computer monitor where it goes. E-mail me back with your results. Good luck!!How do you change an Oil Sensor in a 2004 Audi S4?

Is it safe to have oil and acrylic paints around when TTC?

I have many tubes of acrylic and oil paints in the room where I always stay at. I've always wondered if they're safe for TTC and pregnancy.

The tubes say they're safe, but I just want to make sure. And would they be harmful for a baby to inhale?

Oh, and are clays safe too?Is it safe to have oil and acrylic paints around when TTC?
It is hard to know. If you keep the tubes sealed, it ought to be okay if the tubes say the contents are non-toxic.

But I also think you ought to take a look at the ingredients of the tubes. In the irredescent silver in my acrylics, stainless steel is an ingredient, and mica is an ingredient in the rest of my irredescent colors. Obviously the steel and mica in those tubes are micorscopic, but if ingested, I should think it would be potentially dangerous if a baby got into them and swallowed them.

I doubt simple exposure to them is dangerous.

I do not know anything about clays, so no comments there. Is it safe to have oil and acrylic paints around when TTC?
yeah all of these things are fine, if ever in doubt google it

  • Does anyone have a newer oil heater- the ones that are more like a pellet stove?

I have a heat pump now and would like to get something that keeps the house warmer and of course more affordable.Does anyone have a newer oil heater- the ones that are more like a pellet stove?
I saw you mentioned pellett stove. This is why I decided to post. We purchased a corn burner last year and were very happy with the results.

If you can circulate air with your heat pump without it needing to generate its own heat, I reccommend looking into the corn burner. You have to load it daily or more on very cold days (20 degrees and below) or it will empty. In other settings you can fill it daily and not worry about the hopper emptying. They are easy to maintain.

We purchase corn monthly, -about $50 from a local feed mill, finding it is the most efficient.

They are very attractive and you can still snuggle by the fire with it.

Craftsman trimmer spark plug had oil on it when removed?

it shouldn't have oil on threads and spark end when i pull it out should it? does this mean something bigger is going on inside the motor?Craftsman trimmer spark plug had oil on it when removed?
if the plug was bad that's to be expected. take it with you to the hardware store and get a new plug, also get a can of THRUST it's actually a can of very volatile fluid. spray some into the spark plug hole and it will get rid of some of the fluids that are still in there. it evaporates very quickly. it's generally used to help START engines by spray it into the carb. a few QUICK shots, then try to start the mower.

remember to put the new plug in first. if it doesn't work the first time give it a couple of more tries.

hopefully that will be all you need to do.

remember that the either is very volatile.

good luck to yaCraftsman trimmer spark plug had oil on it when removed?
If it will start and run OK, you do not have too much of a problem. Could be your carb is allowing some fuel into the compression chamber during storage. If it runs good otherwise would drain fuel during storage or have carb. rebuilt....

Can someone tell me the common fractions that are taken out of a distillating column, at what temperature they are removed and a little bit about them (eg. its uses, molecular formula.)

Big reward for big answer :)

Thanks in advance! What are the common fractions that are taken from a fractional distillation column that produces crude oil?
A fractional distillation column does not produce crude oil, it uses it as a raw material. The fractions that are removed will depend on the type of crude used, they are all different mixes. Typical output will include petrol, naphtha, diesel, paraffin.

The required temperature can be varied by using pressure or vacuum in the column so there will be a range for each output depending on internal pressure.

How do u get an oil stain out of a shirt?

I somehow got vegetable oil on my very pretty shirt, and i can't seem to get the stain out. I even used Dawn dishsoap and Shout, but the oil stain is still there :(How do u get an oil stain out of a shirt?
I usually use Joy dishwasing detergent, but it probably won't work any better than Dawn. There is a laundry treatment called De-Solv-It which works like wonders on greasy stains and should do well on oil. Another option is Oxyclean which is made to work on organic stains. Of course, you need to test for colorfastness with either of these products.

Good luck! How do u get an oil stain out of a shirt?
take it to the dry cleaners
Try to pour a very hot water on the stain.
Use toothpaste. Be surprised on how it works.
wash it with a can of coke a cola added to the wash.
    ';goo gone';

it takes out pretty much everything
u can try paint thinner, or gasoline
get some dawn dish detergent it works i promise my husband uses it all the time with oil stains from work and he works at a resturant
Gasoline dissolves oil ...... don't use much because it is hard to rinse out the odour ....... it works like a charm ! ....Good Luck !
Try Dawn dish detergent. It works great!
the best cleaner spray stuff is Zout

But i don't if it'll get out oil stains
I had a dress that I got oil on and it was on there for about a year. I finally used some Greased Lightning, sprayed it on the stains, let it sit overnight, and washed it. It took about 2 or 3 times of doing this, but it worked, and it doesn't hurt the fabric. At least, it hasn't hurt mine.
use kerosene oil but in a small quantity and then rinse it with nice fragrant washing powder .this will do .best of luck.
You put it over your head %26amp; SHOUT it out or use Spray and Wash. I prefer Spray N' Wash, it works best on oily stains, I hope this helps.

I don't know, but if any of these work let me know. I did the same thing to a brand new pair of pants!

I really hope this helps you. If not with this problem it will help with a lot of others
This is tough, the shirt is ruined anyway, so if it were me I would try using dawn dish liquid and hot water right on the stain. Hope it helps. :)

I need to change the oil in a J3 cub, can anyone give me direction on how to acommplish this?

I will be doing the process with an IA but i dont want to show up to change the oil without any prior knowledge on the subject. If anyone has any information that would be great.I need to change the oil in a J3 cub, can anyone give me direction on how to acommplish this?
First off let me commend you for asking for the assistance of your IA or AP mechanic. I'm sure they will be happy to show you the ropes so that you can perform ';legal'; owner maintenance on your own with competence. There are many things you as the owner of your aircraft can legally do to insure the continued airworthiness of your airplane. The hands on work will make you a better informed and safer pilot.

The J3 is pretty basic, you may want to do some uncowling and examine the engine for leaks and general condition at the time of oil change. It is best to run the engine shortly before beginning the work to bring the oil up to temperature and suspend any particles in the oil. There is a drain at the lowest point of the oil sump, this will be removed and replaced after the oil has been drained. This plug may also be safetied to prevent it from becoming loose and falling out during operation.

You may want to sift the oil through a fine mesh cloth or paint strainer to see if any debris is present. You will clean and inspect the oil screen as well. Refill the engine with the proper specified oil in the proper quantity and note in the log book for the engine the work that was performed along with the date and tach time of the aircraft.

Ground run and inspect for leaks then test fly and return to service.

Have a great day flying that classic!

How do I prove that my biodiesel is different from the vegetable oil from which the diesel was derived?

I am making biodiesel for a science project on a very very minimalistic budget (25 dollars). Is there a cheap yet effective way to tell the difference between biodiesel and vegtable oil? I do not have anything that runs diesel in my home. Please exclude things that can be derived locally, unless you know for a fact that this is something that can be found anywhere (i.e. in a supermarket). How do I prove that my biodiesel is different from the vegetable oil from which the diesel was derived?
During the reaction to create bio-diesel, the acidity value of the oil will change to pH neutral. If the reaction is complete, then a simple Litmus Paper test is your cheapest way of showing a difference in acidity/alkalinity- test the source oil, then test the bio-diesel, and show the results.

How can I tell if my 2007 Honda Rancher ES has enough oil?

I don't understand how to read the oil dipstick; please help me see. There are two small sections at the bottom of the stick, and the oil line is up to the top of the second little section. Is that good or bad, and do I need more oil?How can I tell if my 2007 Honda Rancher ES has enough oil?
Should be perfectly in between the lines...It's ok if it is slightly higher...Check the oil with the motor off,if you check it after the engine is warm it will be slightly lower..if you check it after it is sitting overnight it will be slightly higher. How can I tell if my 2007 Honda Rancher ES has enough oil?
The bottom line is the ';add oil'; line, - the top line is the ';full'; line, anywhere between the two is ok, - the space in between is about a quart-- so if down to add line, - a quart will nearly ';fill it'; all the way! It is not good to have oil running much over the ';full line'; -- it is hard on seals, and if enough above (like maybe 2 quarts), - the connecting rods will have to splash through the oil in pan when engine running (loss of power, - and possibly smoking (exhaust) also!

It also pays to check oil often, till you establish how many miles ot usually takes to get down a quart! Also it may have a ';happy level'; where it likes to run,-- and will go dow fairly ralpidly till it hits that point and then stays there for a really long time without dropping very far!*** It might be vbeneficial if the oil is down about a quart,-- near ';oil change time';, - you might just have the oil and filter changed,- instead of putting in a quart, and then draining it out and throwing it away a short time later! By the way change the oil according to the miles driven ---instead of the season, -- unless you need ';thinner oil'; to get it to crank in 20-30 degrees below zero in winter! Since between summer and winter you may put on 20K miles, (or 1000 miles)!
The two marks show the minimum and maximum levels, idealy the oil should be on the higher mark.

Basic car maintainance is now part of the UK driving test, it clearly should be in all other countries!

I live in PA and do both city and hwy driving.?
use 5w30 year round. That is what the manufacturer recommends and is the best in all temps. What is the best weight oil to use in a car? I live in PA and do both city and hwy driving.?
look in your maintence manual. should be 5w30 or 10w30 for year around driving
I live a little south of you (just north of Baltimore) and probably have similar weather. I run 10w30 in my truck (V8 engine) and 5w30 in my wife's 4 cylinder car (both synthetic oil).

You didn't mention what type of SUVs you have and whether or not they're still under manufacturer's warranty (if so, follow the owner's manual recommendations for weight and frequency). 5w30 would be fine for the winter in all the vehicles and fine for year round use in the car.

If the SUVs are V8s, you may want to use 10w30 in the summer. The advice of an oil cooler for the towing is right on, too.
synthetic valvoline bottle, not in the drums when you get your oil changed because it's recycled.also better driving but once started you have to continue use.
Best advice is to follow your owners manual. Most newer cars run fine on 5W30....

If you are doing heavy towing, you should have an auxilary oil cooler installed
Whatever the owners manual say is the best. The manual for my car specifies 10W30. A diesel pickup specifies 15W40
use 10 w 30 in the summer hot months. The reason is that the heat will break down the 5w30 oil much quicker. Use 5w30 during the cold winter months when there is less heat.

Is it possible to store oil for future use?

Crude oil has been in the ground for millions of years. It won't notice another 50. Refined gasoline degrades in months, but you can buy fuel stabilizers Less refined products like fuel oil, motor oil, and kerosene should stay stable for years, but who knows what kind of oil engines 50 years more advanced will need, or even if we will still be using internal combustion engines.

Common practice for emergency and backup fuel supplies is to consume them and then replenish them every few months or years. Is it possible to store oil for future use?
Yes, it is possible. A steel container will rust, but an aluminum container will last much longer. Aluminum forms a hard oxide layer that protects it against further oxidation.

Can the need for an oil change affect gas mileage?

The oil life in my 2005 Chevy Cobalt is at 12% and I feel like my gas mileage is suffering. Can the need for an oil change affect gas mileage?
what that means is your getting close to your oil change, you start out at 100% and go down from there and your computer in your car will let you know when it is time to change it. Colbalts get decent milage. Your gas milage isn't suffering, if you want to increase your milage and go a little longer between oil changes, switch to synthetic oil your milage may increase a few miles per gal.Can the need for an oil change affect gas mileage?
what do you mean your oil life is at 12%? are you basing it on mileage, or on age? yes, dirty or contaminated (too thick)oil can affect your gas mileage. there can be alot of things that can affect gas mileage, air filter, gas, low air pressure in the tires, time for a tune up, etc., etc. how many miles do you have on the vehicle?
Chevy cobalts are not great on gas anyway. Probably one of the worst small cars on gas. Get your oil changed for goodness sake. Take it to the dealership or to Midas, pay 25 bucks and get peace of mind. You are driving a general motors car. Your best bet for getting the most years you can out of it would be to change the oil regularly- every 4K miles or so.
Well you wouldnt notice it if it did actually affect it. If you feel like its worse, check tire air pressure, air filter and tuen up parts

It's just a reminder by miles that you are due for the next scheduled maintenance. It is not smart (doesn't go by time, or do any oil analysis), just a mile counter. Usually that is an oil change/tire rotation: http://smg.toyotapartsandservice.com/

Should your dealer forget to reset it, or you go to an independent mechanic or DIY, you can reset the light yourself.

On pages 122-123 of the US 2004 Prius Owner's Manual (Section 2-5 ';Operation of Instruments and Controls: Gauges, Meters and Service Reminder Indicators';, item (j) in the ';Service reminder indicators and warning buzzers'; section), is a description of the Maint Reqd light and instructions for turning it off. It should be in a similar section in your RAV4's owner's manual.

Usually it is a button dance involving the odometer reset button.

If you no longer have your owner's manual, you can view it online after signing up at Toyota's owner's site: http://www.toyotaownersonline.com/
Yea, the dealer probably has to scan the computer and tell it there has been an oil change. That's the problem with those dummie lights and new technology. You can't do anything yourself anymore without a computer tellin you what or how to do somthing.

It cannot be done unless you have a diesel engine. Then it is possible to get a kit. Not sure of exactly where, but I heard about it at Mother Earth News.

And the good news for UK users is that from 1st July there is no duty due if you use under 2500 litres a year.
car or truck must be a diesel and it costs around 600 bucks here in florida, check in the back of popular science mags for someone that can put it in for you or send you the kit ive heard its not to hard to do
i run my Pajero on veg oil with 50% diesel

did not have to make any mods at all

Do you really think that oil painting is bad for your health?

Toxic for the system? What system anyway? And dangerous for brain and health?

Give some reasonable and rational answer base on your knowledge and experience.Do you really think that oil painting is bad for your health?
I just answered a question regarding this - please see the link below.

Oil painting itself is not hazardous - but the misuse of solvents can lead to over-sensitivity with allergic reactions.

An artist friend of mine passed away a few years back from cancer - he adamantly blamed his illness on the use of lead-based paint. Only true Flake White paint contains lead... so don't use it.

Other heavy metals contained in paint (pigments such as Cadmium, Cobalt, Manganese) have long-term health hazards, but only if you actually consume large quantities of them. The molecules are very large and do not have the ability to pass through the skin, nor can they become airborne while in wet paint form. The solution is pretty simple - don't eat your paint, and don't sand it down with sandpaper.

Use caution with your solvents - keep your jars closed when not using them, wear gloves when you do. Even solvents labeled ';non-toxic'; are suspect, including the orange-oil solvents - which apparently contain d-limonene, a non-drying oil (not great to mix with paint) and which I understand is used as a pesticide.

    Above all - happy painting!

http://ca.answers.yahoo.com/question/ind鈥?/a>Do you really think that oil painting is bad for your health?
Good ventilation is extremely important if you are using oil paints. Also, put used rags in a metal trashcan type container. They can spontaneously combust. Report Abuse

    yes.

I love to paint in oils. But I think you need to use some common sense here. I've never had any problem with the paints themselves. But with the thinner or linseed oil used to thin them. They have have given me a headache from time to time if I don't take a break. Some people may have a problem breathing the vapors into their lungs but,I've never had any problems with it Read the precautions on the back of the thinner bottle(can) if you use it to thin your paint and for your clear up. ...and paint in a well ventilated area.
No. Unless you eat the oil paint.
do we supposedly eat oil paintings?

no, i don't think it affects health by looking at it.
The solids in the oil-based paint are kept suspended by a number of chemicals that are organic solvents. The solvents commonly used in oil-based paints include mineral spirits (naphtha), toluene, xylene, and other petroleum distillate solvents. Oil-based paints are sometimes called Alkyd paints. ';Alkyd'; refers to the resin type that is used in the paint. so its bad
much of the products used for oil painting do enter the body through the skin. yes, they can be harmful. immune, circulatory, and nervous system, read the labels on linseed and other supplies, including the paints. i suggest using orange-oil, available at hobby-lobby and like stores, even some department stores and paint supply. ORANGE OIL, not orange cleaner. use it in place of some oils to thin, flow or clean. i am a canary, i paint. orange oil has been a miracle substance for me. buy it in the big bottle though. it's not expensive.
cadmium colors contain carcinogens. one does not have to ingest oil paint to experience harmful effects. the skin will absorb the paints as well. wear latex gloves. most ill effects from paint are due to carelessnes. wash your hands before you eat or smoke. many of the old masters lived to be old and they were using lead and cadmium based oil paints.
Not if you paint on terpentine coating.

  • Does anybody prefer grease over oil to lubricate their firearms?

Yes. A LIGHT FILM of lithium grease adheres

better to shed water, and won't build up in the

action to freeze in cold weather.

Makes the action feel slicker'n owl sh*t too.Does anybody prefer grease over oil to lubricate their firearms?
Try powdered or liquid Graphite.*Does anybody prefer grease over oil to lubricate their firearms?
I use oil for normal use, but if I wanted to pack away a rifle for a long time I would cover the thing in grease. Grease is for storage, oil is for function... two different uses.
I use both, a dab of pro-gold with a few drops of kellube on the top is great for slide rails, barrel lugs and guide rods, basically anything the moves. I don't use it in triggers or hammer/sear assembly's though, if anything gets into the trigger the grease makes it hard to clean the area out so any areas that are difficult to access oil only or that gritty feel will be real hard to get rid of.

gun grease is great for firearms that are out in varied conditions (like those used for hunting), its much more moisture resistant than oil, doesn't run off, and I find that it makes cleaning easier, seems to hold the powder fouling on the surface of the grease so most of it wipes right out, made cleaning my semi-auto shotgun much easier, used around the bolt rails, striking surface of hammer and underside of bolt, and the inside of receiver where it contacts the bolt (benelli M-1 so no gas system to worry about) and a very light coat on the choke threads.
For parts that see a lot of movement and friction, yes! But not all over.

Particularly, I use grease (something like Super Lube, or Kreighoff's Grease, which works great, and I DON'T own a Kreighoff!!!) on the hinges of break open shotguns (singles, over/unders), and I grease a few other wear points here and there. A very light film is all thats needed.

On semi-auto rifles, such as the M1 Garand, grease is applied to a few areas, such as the op-rod handle channel on the outside of the receiver. Also where the piston tends to rub on the underside of the barrel by the chamber. A tad on TOP of the bolt where it chaffs going into the receiver as well. This is the military way, as instructed by a former instructor, and if you buy a new Springfield M1A (and probably M1 too), these places are already greased.

Just about anywhere there is chaffing rubbing the finish off the metal.

The place I would advise not to grease, is near the gas system of a gas op semi-auto. Leave that alone for the most part, except for by the receiver and only if it needs it. On something like a Remington 1100, leave the outside of the tube and the piston dry.

While its true grease tends to hold dirt/grime more than oil, its important to realize unless you're in the infantry or target shooting in a sand storm you probably aren't going to get too much dirt and sand in the gun. Obviously, proper care and attention are in order. A proper film of grease maintained on wear points will increase the useful life of the parts.
You probably couldn't use grease to lubricate your entire firearm. A combination of the two serves best. I guess if I could only have one it would be oil but I think grease has it's applications.
    I don't

If the gun manufacture considered grease as a good gun lubricant, they would put that information in the owners manual.

grease, will collect ( attract ) too much sand, dust %26amp; other debris

Rice krispy treats: does olive oil work in place of butter?

Anyone tried to replace the butter with olive oil? I'm a long ways from a grocery store? I want to see if it works before i waste all the ingredients....Rice krispy treats: does olive oil work in place of butter?
Never tried it with olive oil, but I've used Cheerios instead of Rice Crispies. Yummy. I've also heard that you can make treats with most any cereal, like Coco Puffs, Lucky Charms and the like, but not flaked cereals like Raisin Bran.

Then again, Raisin Bran might end up like a power bar.

    Hmmmm......

Back to the olive oil and butter. The butter is there to keep help the marshmallows melt and add flavor. I'd suggest using as little oil as possible, because it might be absorbed by the Crispies, making them soggy.

Corn oil might be a good alternative.

LauraRice krispy treats: does olive oil work in place of butter?
No. As an experienced cook, it's difficult to replace shortenning or butter with oils because they have different consistencies and properties. Most likely, the olive oil will give a nasty taste to the rice krispies. Olive oil is pretty strong in taste mostly used in salty dishes.
    NOOOOO! gross
i've never tried it ...do you not have margarine? that will work. I wouldn't recommend the olive oil, it won't melt and stick to the marshmellows when melting to make that creamy/sticky/gooey/best part of the rice krispy squares*...you'll have to wait or ?? try another treat to make until you can get a hold of some butter/margarine*~
    Nope..
i don't think it would work too good. it would change the taste and possibly the consistency
    no
Olive oil is not good for baking or frying because it is so heavy.

Borrow some butter from a neighbor.
YES! just dont use too much, about 2 tablespoons and you'll be enjoying some rice crispies in no time!!
    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I don't think it would work because the butter hardens as it cools and the olive oil don't.

    You could try it, though.

Let me know if it works.
yes, but it gives it bad gasssssssssssssssssssssssssss(fart)
I have used almond oil mixed with butter , but not olive oil and not by itself..I dont think you will get the consistincy that is normally desired but I would be hapy to know how it turns out.
no - I would definitely not use olive oil. It will taste all wrong.
Olive oil will replace the butter, but, it will also change the taste.

How does oil form or what is its source? How is oil collected? ?

How is it used to produce energy and what must happen for usable energy to be available? (both questions about oil)How does oil form or what is its source? How is oil collected? ?
Organic material (plants, algae, anything living) high in energy (ultimately from the sun) gets buried beneath sand, rock, and dirt. As time passes, more and more sediments build up on the organic material. Pressure increases. The heat builds up because of the warmth of the earth. Over time the molecules of these organic materials start to rearrange and form oil.

First the site with oil is drilled. Oil is then pumped steadily and carefully in order to maintain pressure in the well. It's processed in separators into the oil barrels we know and use.

Combustion (a burning reaction with which needs oxygen and an igniter) must occur to use this energy. How does oil form or what is its source? How is oil collected? ?
Oil is millions of years of collected decomposed algae. It would sink to the bottom of oceans and create vast deposits which became buried under dirt and rock. It is collect by drilling up to 9000 ft, sometime air or water must be pumped into the hole to create pressure and force the oil up. It is basically burned to produce energy.

What can you put olive oil on?

I just joined weight watchers, and oil is necessary everyday. About 2 tsp. I never really cook, because I don't know how. I just bought some turkey burgers and whole wheat pasta which I don't even know how to cook, but I figured I would teach myself. What is something simple I can put the oil in, in order to fit this into my diet? What can you put olive oil on?
one of the best dressing you can use is olive oil and fresh lemon juice (just throw a lemon in the microwave for 10 seconds) cut it in half and press the juice out, this goes great on salads and any other vegetable's you like. you could even toss it with some whole wheat pasta and fresh basil. What can you put olive oil on?
Get some Mediterranean on your table!

Easy Olive Oil, Tomato, and Basil Pasta

This is a great pasta that can be eaten at room temperature or as a cold salad. Instant, sophisticated meal or side dish! And colorful, too. Any type of twisty or unusually shaped pasta works well.

    INGREDIENTS

1 (16 ounce) package farfalle pasta

2 roma (plum) tomatoes, seeded and diced

    1/2 cup olive oil

    2 cloves garlic, minced

1/2 cup fresh basil leaves, cut into thin strips

    salt and pepper to taste

    DIRECTIONS

Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add pasta and cook for 8 to 10 minutes or until al dente; drain.

In a large bowl, gently toss the cooked pasta, tomatoes, olive oil, garlic, and basil. Season with salt and pepper
you can make a good pasta sauce with olive oil, you can also put olive oil on bread it tastes good you can toast the bread if you prefer before i dont know if that falls into your diet, you can also fry some veggies in olive oil and eat it with rice.
Watch Rachael Ray on TV, she uses it in everything. I think she takes a bath in EVOO (Extra Virgin Olive Oil)-I'd pay good money too see that one!
    salads, pasta
Make a pasta sauce. Put the oil in a pan and fry an onion, a crushed garlic clove till soft. Add a tin of good quality tomatoes (no added sugar), some dried mixed herbs, a dash of red wine and a table spoon of tomato paste. Cook for at least 1/2 hour simmering not boiling too hard. Add fresh chopped basil if you have it.

You can make a huge pot of this by multiplying the above ingredients by 4 or more then you could freeze it and save cooking another time. Eat with your wholwheat pasta (instructions on how long to boil should be on the packet!) and a green salad.
    Salads are best.
Put both tsp on the pasta along with whatever else you are using to flavor it. You can put it on your salad. You can put it on toast.

I have a bigger problem doing without it :-)
dont put oil its to fattening boil it in water
Slice a tomatoe, slice about 1-2 oz fresh mozzarella cheese, layer these slices with fresh basil leaves, then drizzle extra virgin olive oil over it and sprinkle grey sea salt over, very yummy and healthy.
    some fresh spinach leafs
Mix it in with your whole wheat pasta with some fresh choppped garlic and some fresh herbs (basil or italian parsley would be good)....Who needs a heavy red sauce(which usually contains alot of sugar)?!?
you can take the oil and add italian seasonings and use this as a dip for french bread, or pour it over a salad. you can fry veggies in the oil too.
different kinds of salads. go to foodnetwork.com and you'll finad alot of things
i actually use it instead of vegtable oil..I use it on everything I would in place of the veg oil that I used to use.
What kind of veggies do you like? I especially like to saute onions and zuchinni in some olive oil, as well as cabbage. Any veggie that you like a bit cooked, just saute it in a bit of oil. Pour it over bread. Did you get Ronzoni pasta? I really like their wheat pasta. You can also pour the oil over potatoes instead of adding a bit of butter.
If you like asparagus (I do). I drizzle olive oil and balsamic vinegar over the top and add some fresh ground pepper and a little garlic salt.
Go to http://www.weightwatchers.com/food/index鈥?/a> The site has lots of recipes!
Oil on pasta is very easy. Oil and vinegar is great for dipping bread.

How do i get the oil from the shampoo out of my puppy's fur?

I used this shampoo but it sucked and it is oily and now my puppy's fur is saturated in oil but i washed everything out of it. The water ran clear and i felt nothing in it when i bathed him. Please help me!!How do i get the oil from the shampoo out of my puppy's fur?
Try washing him in Dawn detergent. It will help without hurting his coat, just be careful of the eyes. This also helps rid him of fleas (for future reference). But don't use it too often as it can dry his skin out.How do i get the oil from the shampoo out of my puppy's fur?
I wonder if you just need to rinse him again. It sounds odd that a shampoo would have that much oil in it. I don't think you should use dawn dish washing liquid, I think that would make things worse. I would rinse the puppy for a good ten or twenty minutes and make sure you rinse it good.
Try baking soda mixed with a little shampoo. Make it like a thick paste. Cover your dog's coat in it, let it sit 5 minutes, and rinse really well. Then wash your dog as normal and again rinse really well. This removes unwanted oil from there coat.
try dish soap, it works as a clarifying shampoo and they are generally very gentle.. Sunlight brand works the best

  • How do i check an oil pump on a 1968 Ford Mustang 200cc?

i just rebuilt this straight 6 motor and got it running. i took the valve cover off and ran the motor but i didnt see any oil. how can i check my oil pump? How do i check an oil pump on a 1968 Ford Mustang 200cc?
I bet you meant 200CI not cc....real simple on how to check your oil pump: Remove the distributor, look down into the distributor hole....you will see the top of the oil pump, the distributor drives the oil pump on these engines. I believe it is a 5/16 hex shaft that goes into the oil pump (not positive but you are getting what I'm saying?) With a reversible drill and a socket drive, you should be able to ';prime'; the oil pump. It's been a really long time since I worked on a 200CI Ford engine so I can't remember if you want to go clockwise or counter-clockwise (I think it's clockwise). You will know you're going in the right direction because the drill motor will start to work harder and pull on your hand after about 20 or so revolutions. You should be getting oil pressure at this time. How do i check an oil pump on a 1968 Ford Mustang 200cc?
i agree with k.t.W, add a temporary oil pressure guage while spinnin the drill and you will know if pressure is to specs.

Does anyone know how the french government reduced the amount of oil it uses? Any help would be much appreciated. How has the amount of oil in France been reduced by the gov?
They have greatly increased the size of windmill farms, and solar farms for energy uses. Most cars in europe are either hybrid or 30-gal or better per mile, crude oil is being switched in many industrys because the cheaper, eco-safe corn-oil extracts are more efficient and produce a larger customer span. How has the amount of oil in France been reduced by the gov?

Can I substitute egg with oil?

I realize that I don't have any eggs and I'm making meat loaf.

Can I use veg oil instead or is there another substitute that can be used?

What would happen if I just made it without the egg or substitute? Can I substitute egg with oil?
With a meatloaf you might just be able to get away with no eggs, or perhaps a little cheese. The purpose of the egg is to help hold it all together, so no, oil will not help (might even make it fall apart more). Normally there are no substitutes for eggs in a recipe, but in this case you may be able to pull it off.Can I substitute egg with oil?
You can use bread crumbs as a subtitute to hold the meatloaf together. Crumbs of two slices of bread will do.
It depends on why no eggs- if it only that you don't have any, and not an allergy issue- you could substitue mayo, which of course does have eggs in it. Sour cream might work too- and if you use ground turkey, you could use applesauce- really, that sounds so good I had to go find one, I modified it by removing the egg and increasing the applesauce.

What will happen if I put a drop of water in my oil filler cap of my car?

I accidentally dripped a drop of water into my engine this morning when topping up the oil, what will happen? What will happen if I put a drop of water in my oil filler cap of my car?
A few drops will not hurt at all. The hot oil will turn the water to steam, which will collect at the highest point in the crankcase (engine's open area). You might see a little white/yellowish mayonaise looking film under the oil cap tomorrow. wipe it off.

    Don't worry about it.

Why all these thumbs down? Give us your answer on how it DOES matter, you little know-it-all.

(I never thought it was you, tbh_mint, but rather some 16 year old ';mechanic';)What will happen if I put a drop of water in my oil filler cap of my car?
You will be fine. The idiots who said it will freeze up probably havent even opened a hood in their lives. Let alone owned a boat! You can get away with a little water. A drop is nothing. There are five quarts of oil in there. You probably condense the equivlent of 20 drops ever time you shut the car off when its cold out.
Suggest that a drop of water is probably a lot less then the condensation collected by the engine when driving a cold engine that does not have enough time to warm up on a cold and humid day and shutting it down before doing so.
nothing, your car will heat up to 200+ degrees and the water will vaporize anyways.

theres a lot of water in a cars oil. mostly from condensation.
Nothing will happen; the water will evaporate. It will be fine.
It will evaporate with the rest of the water that's already in there from condensation. Don't worry about it.
I put in oil when it was raining once, that was 20,000 miles ago :) went to Cornwall and back. Forget the down thumbs.
nothing - teaspoon of water then worry
It will be fine. When the engine gets hot it will dissipate.
It will evaporate as soon as the engine warms up......so nothing bad will happen
A drip or two won't hurt - don't make a habit of it though.
    a drop wont do nothing.
    Nothing. Don't sweat it.............
It will be fine don't worry.
The water will ether turn into a vapor as a result of heat or when your crankshaft rotates this will rust your crankshaft and related hardware.
The engine will seize up and stop running in two weeks. Added----It's was a JOKE people.

This is from an article that Paul Krugman wrote - he is an international expert on international finance. I regret that I do not have a link, but this is as brief as I can get without quoting a Macro textbook.

Most of the international role of the dollar comes from its use as a 鈥渦nit of account鈥濃€攖he measuring stick for international business. When a Japanese refiner buys Kuwaiti oil, say, the contracts are in dollars. This is a testament to U.S. economic influence, but flattery aside, it鈥檚 hard to see what we get out of it.

What about our ability to borrow in dollars, to sell dollar- denominated bonds to foreigners? Hey, other countries do that too. But our debts are in our own currency! So? We still pay interest on them. True, we could inflate away our foreign debt. But we won鈥檛鈥攁nd if investors thought we would, they would demand higher interest rates.

Well, then, you may say, surely the international role of the dollar forces people out there to hold dollars for transaction purposes. Yes, but not so you鈥檇 notice. When Daewoo repays a dollar loan from Sanwa, it writes a check on its account with some international bank. True, that bank itself surely maintains an account in New York, backed in part by non-interest-bearing reserves held at the Fed. So the U.S. does in effect get a zero-interest loan out of the dollar鈥檚 international role鈥攂ut it probably amounts to only a few billion dollars, small change for an $8 trillion economy.

If the Euro turns into a GLOBAL reserve currency, (not just for Iran) it MIGHT cost the U.S. economy as much as 0.1% of GDP.

    I think we'll manage.

Additionally, it is doubtful it WILL lose global reserve currency status because there are very few places outside of the US where one can park huge amounts of capital.

How do you check the oil pressure on a 1997 Mitsubishi Montero Sport?

I am thinking I may need to have the oil pump replaced...so if you could tell me how to do that as well I would appreciate it. And how long it should take? How do you check the oil pressure on a 1997 Mitsubishi Montero Sport?
You need an oil pressure gauge that screws into the oil pressure sending unit hole after removing the sending unit. I've never seen a bad oil pump on a Mitsubishi, why do you think you need one? Montero Sports have a piston slap noise when cold that sounds like a knock, if that's what you hear, just keep driving and change the oil and filter every 3,000 miles. Use factory oil filters. Fram filters cause problems when used on Mitsubishi vehicles.

The oil pressure gauge in the dash is not a reliable reading, they always seem to read low.

I've heard that synthetic oil eats away at the metal. I don't know if that's true, but that's what I've heard. But my favorite brands of oil are Castrol, Pennzoil, and Kendall for my Tacoma. Good luck.
Mobil One Synthetic is one of the best you can get. There are some other high end more expensive synthetic oils but they are harder to find. I would stick with the Mobil One
used oil, why spend money on synthetic if it will leak out
My dad tells me it's Mobil 1 synthetic oil. You try it out.

  • If I use leather glove oil on my dogs ears when they are glued down, will it help them to stay down?

I have herd that the oil will soften the ear, and allow you to reset the ears. Has anyone tried this and did it work?If I use leather glove oil on my dogs ears when they are glued down, will it help them to stay down?
No. The cartilage props up a dog's ears and is unaffected by oil.

You probably have a pit bull or similar and want its ears to lay back and look tough. I encourage you not to alter the dogs ears, nor crop it's tail. These practices are becoming less acceptable in show circuits. For example, cropping a Dobie's ears and tail are now outlawed in Germany, the origin of the dog and the practice. If I use leather glove oil on my dogs ears when they are glued down, will it help them to stay down?
what breed are you talking about
No! Once the cartlidge has set in the dogs ears then that's it! No amount of oil will soften the set cartlidge especially leather oil. It will most like just make your dogs skin break out in a rash!
I would just leave the dog's ears alone.....definitely don't want to start messing with them......god made them that way--they are perfect!
No, in fact leather oil may actually cause an allergic reaction or even worse and infection. Never glue your dogs ears either. I don't understand why you would want to anyways.
ur a freak, why would u want ur dogs ears 2 stay down? get a beagle then SMART ONE!
i dont understand ur kestion??? y would u want ur dogs ears to stay down??? wat kind of dog is it??

How does the reliance on oil affect the politics of Russia and Iran?

This is a paper topic that I will need to research. I would just like to know others take on this topic - and what you guys would suggest good points to research would be. Feel free to add in your opinions and comments on the topic.

Thanks everyone. How does the reliance on oil affect the politics of Russia and Iran?
Russia has been able to restart the cold war and issue military threats around the world due to the money it receives from oil sales. However, without oil sales the US would still be feeding a good portion of Russia so there is a little bit of trade off. It is too bad that being a military power is more important to the Russian government then the care of the Russian people.

Iran has a great influence around the world in support of terrorism and methods which will attempt to deliver their caliphate. Without oil they are a powerless and people would see the Iranian government and theocracy for the abusive tyrants they are.How does the reliance on oil affect the politics of Russia and Iran?
russia has a surplus of expensive military weapons that iran needs but cannot provide for themselves due to theri culture that fears education so they rely on the russians need for oil and lack of cash to provide those weapons
    Well in a nut shell,

It gives both countries more international clout, than they would otherwise have.

    But for different reasons.

It gives Russia, much needed hard currancy, something that has always been in short supply in Russia.

With rising oil prices, Russia now has the funds, to fund projects they haven't had the money for in the last 20 years.

In the case of Iran, thier threats to shut off the oil exports, gives them a semi crediable threat to hold off international sanctions.

The threat isn't a very good one, since most of thier oil exports go to China, and Iran will not do anything to cut off that good will.

But that is why China, has been hedging against sanctions against iran.

But as the new sanctions show, even that has it's weak point, since China supported the new sanctions.
Isolating iran by the west has helped russia build a close relasionship with them giving the cash straped russians influence when they could not afford it otherwise, very stupid of Bush n co till you realize they make much more money selling bombs than oil.
Well, Russia's economy would be dead w/o it's oil %26amp; same w/ Iran plus Iran wouldn't have the money to build their nukes.
russia is on irans side because iran opposes the USA. russia and many other nations are concerned about the 'expansion' of US interests lately. empires have no place in the modern world and if we keep it up, theyll stamp us out.

Should I remove empty heating oil tank that is in my basement?

I have an old (empty) heating oil tank that is in my basement. It is in an unfinished portion of the basement. Aesthetically it does not bother me that it is there, but are there any health concerns that I should be aware of?Should I remove empty heating oil tank that is in my basement?
As long as it's not leaking any oil. Is there any oil at all left in the tank? If it still has oil it could rust out from the inside and the oil start to leak`and you not know it until it's too late. My neighbor had to shell out $2000.00 to clean up the oil that leaked from his 50 year old tank. Safe Harbor had to come in and remove the contaminated soil and haul it away. They pumped the oil out and the heating company had them cut the tank in half and haul it away. Just a thing to let you know what could happen. How old is the tank? There is a date of manufacture on the top or side. Not any health concerns only what I mentioned. Call around and see what it will cost to have it removed by a licensed company to be safe. If it's absolutely bone dry then have the kids do graffiti on it.
