On May 23, 2007, the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals denied Exxon Mobil Corp.'s request for another hearing, letting stand its ruling that Exxon owes $2.5 billion in punitive damages. Exxon is using the delay tactic. They plan to wait until all the principals die. They know that any payment, by law, can only go to the folks who were directly affected by the oil spill. It cannot go to their children or estate after they die.
